Tornadoes from Super Typhoon Nando Damage Dozens of Houses in Provincial Villages
At least 48 homes suffered damage after tornadoes generated by Super Typhoon Nando struck multiple villages in the province on Monday morning, officials confirmed. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, Arwin Vendiola, explained that the tornadoes originated at sea and made landfall near 11 a.m., impacting the villages of Nagsayaoan, Nagtupacan, and Maynganay Norte.
Preliminary evaluations indicated that two houses in Barangay Maynganay Norte were partially damaged, while Barangay Nagtupacan saw 16 homes affected. In Barangay Nagsayaoan, around 20 houses reportedly sustained damage, though these figures are still being verified. Vendiola stated, "Most of the affected homes had their galvanized roofs torn off due to the strong winds. Additionally, some partially damaged structures were covered by fallen debris and tree branches."
The severe winds also caused electric posts to collapse and resulted in partial damage to vinegar stalls located along the national highway. Despite the considerable property damage, authorities confirmed there were no injuries reported from the incident. Ongoing efforts include clearing debris, repairing homes, and assessing the needs of affected families.
