President Marcos Jr. Honors OFW Rhodora Alcaraz for Heroic Act Abroad

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. personally welcomed overseas Filipino worker Rhodora Alcaraz at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Thursday morning, lauding her heroism displayed during an emergency incident abroad. The President himself presented a formal commendation, underscoring the government"s high regard for Filipino workers overseas.

Alcaraz, arriving from Dubai, was met with a warm reception, accompanied by top officials from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). The ceremony highlighted the institutional gratitude of the Philippine government, reiterating the administration"s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of overseas Filipinos.

In his remarks, President Marcos Jr. said, "Rhodora Alcaraz embodies the spirit of Filipino courage and resilience. Her actions remind us that our overseas workers are our modern-day heroes. This recognition is not only a tribute to her bravery but also a pledge that our government will stand by every Filipino abroad."

Rhodora was honored for her quick thinking and selflessness in averting a potential disaster during a fire breakout in her residential area, helping evacuate several families and assisting emergency responders. Her heroic deed has since been recognized internationally, bringing pride to the Filipino community overseas.

Aside from the commendation, OWWA and DMW announced immediate assistance to Alcaraz, including livelihood support, healthcare benefits, and reintegration programs. "We ensure that our kababayans like Rhodora are supported not only in times of crisis but throughout their journey," said OWWA Administrator Bernard Olalia. DMW Secretary Susan Ople added, "This act of heroism reaffirms our commitment to strengthen welfare policies and interventions for overseas Filipinos."

The event was framed under President Marcos Jr.’s governance mantra, "Maasahan at Masipag," illustrating his administration as the reliable protector of overseas Filipinos. The message echoed throughout the program was clear: "Reliable leadership. Tireless care. Filipino heroes are never alone."

Government officials and advocates alike lauded the occasion as a milestone for institutional recognition of OFWs, emphasizing enhanced policies for protection, empowerment, and care for Filipino migrant workers worldwide.

The ceremony concluded with President Marcos Jr. personally assuring Alcaraz and all overseas Filipinos of continued government support and vigilance in addressing their welfare and rights.

"This honoring is more than a formality; it is a symbol of our shared commitment to our fellow Filipinos abroad. Their sacrifices and heroism deserve nothing less than our utmost gratitude and protection," the President affirmed.
