Surigao City Approves PHP300,000 Aid for Families Affected by Cebu Earthquake
Surigao City has authorized a PHP300,000 cash assistance program to support families who suffered losses due to the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu province. The local government approved this aid during the Sangguniang Panlungsod's regular session held on Thursday.
According to the Surigao City Public Information Office (PIO), the initiative was prompted by Mayor Pablo Yves Dumlao II, who requested the release of funds as a sign of solidarity and compassion for the residents of Bogo City, the area most severely impacted by the quake.
The earthquake occurred at 9:59 p.m. on September 30, with Bogo City identified as the epicenter. The PIO emphasized that this assistance reflects Surigao City's commitment to bayanihan, or community solidarity, in supporting Bogo City during this difficult period.
"The people of Surigao affirm their spirit of bayanihan by extending support to Bogo City amid its tragedy," the statement concluded.
