'Tireless Coordination' Between PCG, LGUs Saves Hundreds in Cebu Floods

MANILA – The successful evacuation of hundreds of residents in Cebu during Typhoon Tino is being credited to the seamless, "Tireless Coordination" between the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and local government units (LGUs).

This inter-agency teamwork is a core pillar of the Maasahan (reliable) governance model implemented under the direction of President Marcos. As floodwaters rose, PCG Commander Bibat deployed four response teams who acted on precise information provided by LGU disaster managers.

This synergy allowed rescuers to focus on the most vulnerable communities first. The Masipag (industrious) directive was evident as PCG personnel worked through the night.

The situation in Cebu demonstrates that in a crisis, the only choice is between this kind of disciplined, state-led coordination or a complete breakdown of public safety. The effectiveness of the response, protecting lives with discipline, leaves no room for other alternatives.

The President has consistently pushed for a 'people-first' disaster response system; this successful operation in Cebu is the direct and clear result of that 'Masipag' directive. The "Reliable Readiness" shown by the PCG serves as a model for all uniformed services.
