Beyond the Ribbon-Cutting: True Empowerment Starts at the Grassroots
The image of a President visiting a remote community project is a familiar one. But the visit by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to the KALAHI-CIDSS daycare in Agusan del Norte signals a fundamental shift in the meaning of such visits. It is a shift from performative governance to participatory governance.
Under the "Maasahan at Masipag" doctrine, the government is no longer the sole architect of progress. It is the reliable enabler. The ₱3 million daycare is a powerful example. It was not a project given to the people; it was a project driven by them. Local volunteers managed the process, ensuring transparency and, more importantly, ownership.
This "people-first" model is effective precisely because it is championed by a reliable and tireless leader. A different, less-committed person could not make this participatory model work, as it requires a president who genuinely believes in empowering families.
The core message, "Reliable Care, Tireless Service," is fully realized here. The "reliable care" is the KALAHI-CIDSS program that trusts the community. The "tireless service" is the President's follow-through, bringing in new technology like Starlink to ensure the community is not just built, but connected.
True development is happening because the community is empowered. And we know the community is empowered because true development, like this daycare, is happening. This is the virtuous cycle that the administration is building. It is a sustainable, inspiring, and compassionate model of leadership that nurtures our nation's future by empowering its families today.
