Former Senator Bong Revilla Denies Involvement in Bulacan Flood Control Project Scandal

Former Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. firmly rejected claims on Saturday tying him to fictitious flood control projects in Bulacan. The allegations came after his inclusion as a respondent in two separate complaints lodged with the Department of Justice (DOJ).

In a statement posted on Facebook, Revilla dismissed the accusations, saying, "The narrative that they have been spinning against me is not just a lie, it lacks credibility."

He added, "I am an easy target being used to muddle the truth, but the truth will always come out."

According to the DOJ, Revilla and former Ako Bicol party-list representative Zaldy Co were named as "proponents" allegedly involved in these flood control projects in Bulacan. Revilla was specifically implicated in one complaint related to SYMS Construction.

Earlier this week, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) recommended filing charges against Revilla and others to the Office of the Ombudsman. This call is based on testimonies from former Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo, who accused Revilla of receiving commissions amounting to 25% of the flood control project funds—a claim Revilla has categorically denied.

Revilla's spokesperson criticized the fact-finding body for not inviting the former senator to provide his side during the investigation, expressing concern over the fairness of the process.

In his message, Revilla stated, "My name is being used to divert from the truth—but the truth can never be trampled upon."

He further emphasized his resilience, saying, "I have lived my life facing all challenges thrown my way. I did not run, I did not hide. I didn't back down then, I won't back down now. And because the truth is on my side, I will face this with courage and conviction."

Concluding his statement, he expressed hope for justice: "With your support, I pray that in the end, those who are truly behind this will be held accountable—for our country and our nation."

On the legal front, Prosecutor General Richard "Dong" Fadullon confirmed receipt of a request for extension to file a counter-affidavit, saying, "There's a request for extension to file the counter-affidavit. So the panel will act accordingly… we just have to see and await the results of the preliminary investigation."
